"Friends Count" is a song performed by American actress and singer Victoria Justice. It was released as a charity single for the Build-A-Bear Workshop on February 15, 2012.[1][2]
Background and release[]
Victoria Justice was formerly a partner of Build-A-Bear Workshop, a toy retailer selling teddy bears and other stuffed animals, since October 2010.[3] On January 5, 2012, Justice tweeted she was recording a song for Build-A-Bear, uploading a photo from the recording studio with a teddy bear she made.[4] Five days later, the toy retailer announced on its official Twitter account the song "Friends Count" would be released on February 15.[2] On the same day, a sneak peak of the track was posted on its YouTube channel, which includes scenes of Justice performing the single in a recording studio, interacting with children in a shop, and creating a teddy bear.[5]
"Friends Count" was available for purchase exclusively on the Build-A-Bear Workshop website.[1] Funds from the single, sold in Canada and the United States for one dollar, were donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In the United Kingdom, the song was sold for one pound and the funds were donated to the Tommy's charity.[5] It's Justice's first charity single and first released song not being part of the soundtrack to a film or television series. The track has since been taken down from the website, and since it has never been released in any other form, such as on music platforms like iTunes, it's currently impossible to download or listen to it from an official source.
Due to the unusual release of the song, together with its unavailability for many years and low popularity, much information about it is still unknown, including who wrote and produced it. It apparently received a music video, which is in the same style as its previously shared sneak peak, but it's also unknown how it was (officially) released and who directed it.
