"All I Want Is Everything" is a song performed by American actress and singer Victoria Justice, written by Lindy Robbins and Toby Gad, and produced by Gad with Greg Wells and Michael Corcoran, for the Nickelodeon television series Victorious. It was released as the fifth track on the series' soundtrack album, Victorious: Music from the Hit TV Show, on August 2, 2011.

Background and release[]

On July 3, 2011, Dan Schneider, the creator of Victorious, revealed Victoria Justice's song "All I Want Is Everything" would be performed in the then-upcoming special episode of the series, "Locked Up!". While he considered the demo version a "huge hit", he found it even more incredible when Justice later recorded the song; this means there's a demo of the song made by someone else before Justice recorded it.[1] Columbia Records and Nickelodeon later confirmed it would be the fifth track on the show's soundtrack album, released under the title Victorious: Music from the Hit TV Show on August 2. It was also revealed the track was produced by Raphael Saadiq, but it turned out to be untrue as he's credited as the producer of another new song, "I Want You Back".[2] The "first look" of the lyrics of "All I Want Is Everything" was revealed on July 18.[3]

During the production of the music video, Justice said the song is about "wanting something really really badly and not being afraid to go for it. The moment is now to take a chance and do it."

In the series[]

"All I Want Is Everything" was performed by Tori Vega (portrayed by Victoria Justice) with André Harris (portrayed by Leon Thomas III), Jade West (portrayed by Elizabeth Gillies), and Cat Valentine (portrayed by Ariana Grande) in the episode "Locked Up!" (the same episode "I Want You Back" was performed), that premiered on July 30, 2011. The main characters go to Yerba, a supposedly very exotic island, during their semester break. They promise to perform for seven nights at a hotel so that their trip will be free. They are forced to perform after they wanted to leave a country that is actually at war. Tori's sister, Trina Vega (portrayed by Daniella Monet), was supposed to sing along with Tori, André, Jade, and Cat, but her microphone was turned off due to her poor vocal ability. Their performance was attended by the chancellor of the country and its main head. The Yerbanians enjoy this performance, but it's cut short when Tori's shoe accidentally flies off and hits the chancellor's only good eye, causing her to be arrested.

Chart performance[]

Although it was never released as a single, "All I Want Is Everything" spent 18 weeks and peaked at number two on the now-discontinued Kid Digital Song Sales chart.

Music video[]

Production and release[]

On August 15, 2011, Victoria Justice revealed she was learning choreography for the music video for "All I Want Is Everything".[14] Filming of the video began on August 16 and ended two days later.[15][16] It premiered on September 2.[17] The video was directed by Lex Halaby in the Arts District, Los Angeles. It features all members of the main cast of Victorious, with the exception of Avan Jogia (though he can be seen on Justice's laptop screen in the clip). The dance routine was choreographed by Tony Testa.[18]

Synopsis[]

Victoria Justice enters the Friendbookster.com website, where she notices a boy named Dean Stanland, who is a single. She wants to go with him a date, so she sends him a video in which she performs a song and fools around in her room. In the meantime, Stanland spends time with his friends somewhere in the town. He gets a message with her video, but it can't load because of a poor Internet connection. However, when her video appeared on his phone, he was busy playing basketball. Due to the lack of his answer, Justice comes up with a new idea and asks her friends to meet in the downtown where they hang posters that say "Dean, all I want is... to meet up! Are you in?". Stanland ultimately notices Justice's video on his phone, which seems to be very interested, and while walking around the city he notices hung posters. Justice gets a message from Stanland's phone number, in which he asks where they want to meet, to which Justice replies. Additional scenes include Justice performing the song and dancing with the other girls in front of large graffiti. The clip ends with the inscription "to be continued..."

Live performances[]

Victoria Justice sang "All I Want Is Everything" in the episode of the talk show The View on September 12, 2011.[19]

The cast of Victorious (with the exception of Ariana Grande, who was absent) performed a flash mob that took place at Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles on September 17.[20] Prior to its start, Justice revealed it would be a continuation of the music video's plot and announced to the people arranged in a circle to cheer very loudly. The audience also received posters from the producers of the performance in the style of those in the music video. The show begins with Dean Stanland walking around town and looking for Justice, whom he wants to meet. At one point, she appears in front of him and is joined by the series' cast members and other dancers to perform a flash mob. It ends with Justice and Stanland hugging. The performance was later repeated. The professional footage has been officially uploaded online; Popstar! Magazine has also uploaded an additional unedited version shot from the perspective of a person in the audience, which shows the show's cast interacting with the audience and both versions of the performance. The flash mob's behind the scenes video was uploaded by Idolator on October 3.[21]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I feel delirious
Come, let's get out of here
We're so anonymous, but
It's all coming clear
We're heading for the sky
And we'll get lost in it 'cause
All I want, all I want
All I want is everything

[Pre-chorus]
And I will pose if I wanna
And I will vogue like Madonna
I might not dance like M.J., R.I.P.
But I will give the best of me

[Chorus]
All I want is everything, yes, everything
Too much is not enough
I'm sick of settling for in between
And I'm not giving up
As long as it feels right
At least we know that we're alive
All I want is everything, yes, everything, yeah
Whoa-whoa

[Verse 2]
We don't ever stop
Let's watch the sun come up
We'll sleep when we're dead 'cause
Halfway kind of sucks
We're heading for the sky
And we'll get lost in it
'Cause all I want, all I want
All I want is everything

[Pre-chorus]
And I will pose if I wanna
And I will vogue, like Madonna
I might not dance like M.J., R.I.P.
But I will give the best of me

[Chorus]
All I want is everything, yes, everything
Too much is not enough
I'm sick of settling for in between
And I'm not giving up
As long as it feels right
At least we know that we're alive
All I want is everything, yes, everything, yeah
Whoa-whoa

[Bridge]
Hold onto me
And I'll hold onto you (ah)
Don't overthink
What have we got to lose?
It's me and you
Me and you, no matter what
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
We're heading for the sky
And we'll get lost in it
'Cause all I want, all I want
All I want is everything

[Pre-chorus]
And I will pose if I wanna
And I will vogue, like Madonna
I might not dance like M.J., R.I.P.
But I will give the best of me

[Chorus]
All I want is everything, yes, everything
Too much is not enough
I'm sick of settling for in between
And I'm not giving up
As long as it feels right
At least we know that we're alive
All I want is everything, yes, everything, yeah
Whoa-whoa

Trivia[]

  • The line "And I will vogue, like Madonna" is a reference to singer Madonna and her 1990 hit single "Vogue".
  • The line "I might not dance like M.J., R.I.P." refers to the late singer Michael Jackson and how he was known for incorporating dance extensively into his work. Ironically, another song from the album and performed in the same episode, "I Want You Back", is originally by the Jackson 5, the band Jackson was in. It's one of Victoria Justice's two songs in which he's mentioned, with the other being "Shake".
  • Justice wrote "All I Want Is Everything" is one of her favorite songs from Victorious.[23]
  • When Tiger Beat asked the Victorious cast members which song on the series' soundtrack was their favorite to sing in the shower, Matt Bennett answered "All I Want Is Everything" and "Give It Up".
  • There's a video of Justice recording the song in the studio with Toby Gad, one of the co-writers and co-producers. The source of this video is unknown; when it resurfaced in 2023, Justice revealed she had no idea about its existence.[24]
  • The song appears in TeenNick's the Best of Victorious playlist on Spotify, along with other 12 songs by Justice.[25]
  • Bennett and Ariana Grande covered this song and "Freak the Freak Out" on Instagram Stories while at Disneyland in 2020.[26] He also played "All I Want Is Everything" on his DJ concerts.[27]
