"Don't You (Forget About Me)" (also written as "Don't You Forget About Me") is a song originally performed by the Scottish band Simple Minds, and written by Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff, for the film The Breakfast Club. Initially released as part of the film's soundtrack album, it was later released as a single on February 20, 1985. It's one of their most commercially successful singles to date.

Victoria Justice covered the song for the Nickelodeon television series Victorious. Her version, produced by Michael Corcoran and Eric Goldman, was originally released on the series' website TheSlap on January 30, 2012, and later included as the sixth track (and the last on its standard version) on the series' first extended play, Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show.[1]

Background and release[]

On January 23, 2012, Victoria Justice revealed to MTV they filmed an episode of Victorious that pays homage to the film The Breakfast Club. For it, they recorded a cover of "Don't You (Forget About Me)", a song created by Simple Minds especially for this film. Justice also suggested their version of the song could receive a music video, though this never happened.[2] After it appeared in the series, the song was released on the series' official website TheSlap on January 30.[1] However, the song wasn't released on any official music platform at the time.

Columbia Records later confirmed it would be the sixth track on the soundtrack extended play, released under the title Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show.[3] It was the first released song from this EP. Victorious cast's cover has slightly changed lyrics compared to the original version performed by Simple Minds.

Appearance in Victorious[]

TheBreakfast

"Don't You (Forget About Me)" was played in the background of the episode "The Breakfast Bunch", that premiered on January 28, 2012; this episode is a parody of The Breakfast Club. Unusually, the song isn't performed by the characters, but rather played in the background at the beginning and end of the episode, as well as during the closing credits. Because of this, the song has no impact on the plot of the episode.

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ooh-woah

[Verse 1]
Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone dancing, you know it, baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out, and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby

[Chorus]
Don't you forget about me
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't you forget about me

[Post-chorus]
Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never lonely
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down
Will you recognize me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down

[Interlude]
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ooh-woah

[Verse 2]
Don't you try and pretend
It's my feeling, we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security
Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing, you know it, baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

[Chorus]
Don't you forget about me
Don't don't don't don't
Don't you forget about me

[Bridge]
As you walk on by (as you walk on by)
Will you call my name? (will you call my name?)
As you walk on by (as you walk on by)
Will you call my name? (yeah)

[Outro]
I say la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
As you walk on by (as you walk on by)
Will you call my name? (will you call my name?)
As you walk on by (as you walk on by)
Will you call my name? (yeah)
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Don't you, don't you (la-la), don't you forget about me

Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

[Chorus]
Don't you forget about me
Don't don't don't don't
Don't you forget about me

[Bridge]
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away
Or will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on, call my name
Will you call my name?

And you call my name
When you walk on by
