"5 Fingaz to the Face" (also known as "5 Fingaz" and "Five Fingaz to the Face") is a song performed by American actress and singer Victoria Justice, written by Dan Schneider and its producers, Michael Corcoran and Eric Goldman, for the Nickelodeon television series Victorious. It was originally released on the series' website TheSlap on April 15, 2012, and later included as the fourth track on the series' first extended play, Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show.[1]

Background and release[]

On April 12, 2012, the official X account of Victorious revealed one of the lines of the song that was to appear in the new episode of the series.[2] A few hours before the episode's premiere two days later, a sneak peek of the song was also published.[3] After it appeared in Victorious, "5 Fingaz to the Face" was released on the series' official website TheSlap on April 15, 2012.[1] However, the song wasn't released on any official music platform at the time. Columbia Records later confirmed it would be the fourth track on the soundtrack extended play, released under the title Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show.[4]

Some of the lyrics were already written for an episode of the first season of Victorious in 2010. Dan Schneider, the creator of the series (and one of the co-writers of "5 Fingaz to the Face"), revealed on his Blogger page the song "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot was originally planned to be covered, but its use proved too expensive, so Michael Corcoran wrote a new song instead.[5] However, this short piece wasn't released and there were likely no plans to create a full version of it, until its lyrics were reused for a new song two years later.

Appearances in Victorious[]

"Tori the Zombie"[]

"5 Fingaz to the Face" was first performed by Cat Valentine (portrayed by Ariana Grande) and Trina Vega (portrayed by Daniella Monet) in the episode "Tori the Zombie", that premiered on May 8, 2010. They perform a bit of this song while driving back from Bakersfield to Los Angeles. However, Cat ends the song abruptly because she doesn't want to continue singing, as she considers it "dirty".

"Driving Tori Crazy"[]

"5 Fingaz to the Face" was performed a second time by the main cast members of Victorious with Dr. Rhapsody (portrayed by Marcus Folmar) in the episode "Driving Tori Crazy", that premiered on April 14, 2012. The main characters are riding a party bus to school. At one point, they notice that the driver is Dr. Rhapsody, a 1990s rapper who only has one hit song. After André Harris (portrayed by Leon Thomas III) says they like his song "5 Fingaz to the Face", Rhapsody asks if they want to listen to it as he has a radio mix, club mix, remix, radio club remix, and karaoke version. Tori Vega (portrayed by Victoria Justice) replies they want a karaoke version, so the rapper plays it and performs it along with the bus passengers. The same performance is later used during the closing credits.

"Tori Goes Platinum"[]

The song was performed a third time by Burf (portrayed by Darsan Solomon) in the episode "Tori Goes Platinum" (the same episode "Freak the Freak Out", "Cheer Me Up", and "Make It in America" were performed), that premiered on May 19, 2012. He raps part of the chorus on the audition video for the song contest held by Mason Thornesmith (portrayed by Charles Shaughnessy). However, he doesn't appear to like Burf's performance.

When the episode is split into two parts, a longer version of Burf's performance is used during the closing credits of the second part.

Journalistic commentary[]

"5 Fingaz to the Face" was overlooked by journalists at the time of its release, but positive reviews have emerged retrospectively. Israel Olorunnisola of MovieWeb included the song in his list of "10 Songs You Forgot Were Awesome" from Victorious in 2023.[6] Joey Turner made a list of the 10 best songs from the series for WatchMojo, on which "5 Fingaz to the Face" wasn't included in the main ranking, but was singled out as one of the "honorable mentions".[7]

Chart performance[]

Although it was never released as a single, "5 Fingaz to the Face" debuted at number eight following the release of Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show on the now-discontinued Kid Digital Song Sales chart, where it spent 14 weeks in total.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
You know I flaunt ya
'Cause girl I really want ya
And you looking nice
Got me cooler than a bag of ice
Now freeze, freeze, freeze
Now go
Drop it fast and move it real slow
Oh
What?
You smell so fruity
I'm a pirate and you're my booty (argh)
So move it in close
And let me have my daily dose (oh)
Girl, I've been thinking about you thinking about me
What you think about it?

[Chorus]
Five fingaz to the face (eh, eh, reh, rew)
Five fingaz to the face (woo, eh, eh, eh)
(Oh, it's like that)
Five fingaz to the face (yip, rih-pih-pih, reh, rew)
Five fingaz to the face (eh, eh, eh, eh)

[Verse 2]
I love Martina, Vanessa, and Georgina
It's a ladies choice
So I'ma make sure to make some noise
(Ho, oh, woah)
And now we're sweating
Got my turbo engine revving (vroom)
They stop and stare
All the haters think it's just not fair
That I'm six foot one and I'm tons of fun
And I'm about to put this club in gear
So fellas grab a cup (what)
All my ladies you know what's up (yeah)
Put your hands to the sky if you're feeling fly
And tell me that you (what)
Cause' I'm the man in charge
And ya know I'm living large
I got a big white house and a fancy yacht
And a garage full of classic cars

[Interlude]
What you talking 'bout boy
Oh calm down
I know you don't think you can just come up in here and buy me
Come on
You know what I got for you

[Chorus]
Five fingaz to the face (eh, eh, reh, rew)
Five fingaz to the face (woo, eh, eh, ehh)
Five fingaz to the face (yip, rih-pih-pih, reh, rew)
Five fingaz to the face (eh, eh, eh, eh)

[Outro]
Oh (woah)
Hey-yeah
(It's goin' down)
(Woah, yeah)

Trivia[]

  • On the physical releases of Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show and Apple Music, "5 Fingaz to the Face" is credited as being performed only by the "Victorious cast".[11] Victoria Justice is separately credited as the featured performer only on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Tidal.[12][13]
  • Jake Farrow, one of the vocal providers, is listed as "Rex Powers", the puppet he voiced in Victorious, on the liner notes of Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show (which are only available on digital music platforms, because for some reason they weren't included on the physical version of the extended play). This is probably done because Farrow was always uncredited in the series to give the illusion Rex is voiced by his best friend and ventriloquist Robbie Shapiro, portrayed by Matt Bennett.
  • Bennett played the song on his DJ concerts.[14]
  • Jace Norman and Sean Ryan Fox rapped a piece of "5 Fingaz to the Face" in the episode "A Fiñata Full of Death Bugs" of Dan Schneider's other Nickelodeon series Henry Danger, as their characters Henry Hart and Jasper Dunlop, respectively.
